Following a multi-sectorial summit chaired by Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o at Serena Hotel, Nairobi, Kisumu Investment Conference is slated for September 26th to 30th, 2021. According to the Governor, the meeting with diplomats was among many others the county plans to have with government parastatals, the private sector and the local business community before the conference.

The diplomatic community wanted to know some information that was missing, including the comparative advantage of Kisumu within the Lake Region Economic Bloc and the East Africa region considering Kisumu is an entry point to both regions, sitting at the end of Lake Victoria and enjoying maritime advantage.’’

Kisumu Investment Conference targets to market the lakeside county and in proxy, the Lake Region which has witnessed renewed growth over the last three years as an investment hub. Over 3,000 investors are targeted to attend the conference as the county repositions itself as the regional business hub for the Lake Region Bloc (LREB) and East Africa.

The Theme for Kisumu Investment Conference 2021 is, “Creating an environment where Kenyan cities’ residents and non-residents would safely invest their energy and resources.” The conference will be held at Jomo Kenyatta International Sports Ground under strict Covid-19 containment measures.

Among the diplomats who met Nyong’o were Chol Ajongo of the Republic of South Sudan, Ashish Sinha representing UNEP and UN-Habitat and Gerald Ockotch from South Africa. It is anticipated that the conference will draw exhibitors and market opportunities in agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, industrialization, sports, health, culture and talent development, film, infrastructure and energy.

Governor Nyong’o said the county government plans to use the event as a precursor of the 9th edition of the Africities conference to be held in Kisumu next April. “It will be big and loaded. Kisumu is the next big thing in East and Central Africa.”
